These are the ground rules for using Aviation Affair, and particularly for taking part in the discussions. I've tried to keep them short and readable, because terms nobody finishes reading protect nobody.
By using this site you're agreeing to what's below. If you create an account, you are also agreeing to the Privacy Policy.
What this site is
Aviation Affair is my personal publication about aviation regulation and the systems behind it. It is independent, and nothing here is official guidance. The Disclaimer explains that in full, and it's worth two minutes of your time before you rely on anything you read here.
Your account
- Use a real email address you can actually receive mail at — you'll need to confirm it before you can post.
- One account per person. Please don't register several to make a point look more popular than it is.
- Your account is yours. Keep your password to yourself, and tell me if you think someone else has got into it.
- Your display name doesn't have to be your real name, but it shouldn't impersonate someone else or pretend to be an official body.
Comments are public
Anything you post in the discussion area is visible to everyone who visits the site, including people who aren't signed in and search engines. Please don't post anything you'd rather keep private — and that includes your own personal details, your employer's internal documents, or anyone else's information.
What you may not post
I'd rather have a small, thoughtful discussion than a large, ugly one. Please don't post:
- Abuse, harassment, threats, or attacks on someone personally rather than on their argument.
- Spam, advertising, or link-dropping.
- Content that isn't yours to share — copyrighted text, confidential company material, or restricted operational documents.
- Other people's personal information.
- Anything unlawful under Saudi law.
- Claims about safety or regulation you know to be false. Getting something wrong is fine and happens to all of us; deliberately misleading people about aviation safety is not.
Disagreeing well
Aviation is full of genuine disagreement about interpretation, and those arguments are often the most useful thing on the page. Argue with the reasoning, cite the Annex or the regulation, and assume the other person is engaging in good faith. A sharp technical disagreement is welcome here. Contempt for the person making it isn't.
Who owns what you write
Your comments stay yours. By posting, you're giving me permission to display them on the site and keep them there as part of the discussion. You can edit a comment for a short window after posting, and delete it whenever you like — though if people have already replied to it, the empty space stays so the conversation still reads properly.
Moderation
Comments appear immediately; I don't hold them for approval. But I do moderate afterwards, and I'll remove anything that breaks the rules above. Readers can report a comment, and one that gets several reports is hidden automatically until I've looked at it.
If you repeatedly break these rules I'll suspend your account. For anything serious — harassment, or posting someone's private information — I'll do it immediately and without warning. I'd much rather never need to.
Rate limits
There's a cap on how many comments you can post in an hour. It exists to slow down spam bots, not to stop you having a conversation, and you're unlikely to notice it in normal use.
Availability
This is a personal project running on a single server. I try to keep it up, but I can't promise it will always be available, and I may change or remove features as the site develops.
Changes to these terms
I'll update this page when the site changes. Your registration records which version you agreed to, so if I make a significant change I'll ask you to accept the new one rather than quietly swapping it out.
